SALARY: $109,537.08- $130,625.00/ DOE with excellent benefits

The Santa Monica Workgroup: LAFLA’s Santa Monica Workgroup is a community office assisting residents in the areas of housing, public benefits, and domestic violence and family advocacy, and operating for nearly 30 years in Santa Monica. We often coordinate our advocacy with other non-profits, community-based organizations, and local government agencies to help our clients gain the best results through a holistic model of community advocacy.

As a Senior Attorney in LAFLA’s Santa Monica office, you will help lead and shape the housing law practice, have the opportunity to be a leader and mentor others through the spectrum of unlawful detainer litigation, develop and pursue affirmative impact litigation, and have a voice in public policy.


• We are seeking an advocate with at least 10 years of experience who is passionate about addressing the housing crisis in Los Angeles County;
• Active membership in the California State Bar;
• Litigation experience in California Superior Court or Federal Court;
• Knowledge of California housing law, landlord-tenant law, and the eviction process;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Be an expert and leader within LAFLA and outside LAFLA before law firms, funders, advocacy partners, and others;
• Demonstrated commitment to serving the needs of low-income persons;
• Willingness to work beyond a minimum 8.0 hour workday, including evening and weekend meetings and events, and workweeks in excess of 32 hours when caseload or other obligations so necessitate.

• You will serve as lead counsel on cases that include complex advocacy, impact litigation, and direct services to Santa Monica residents, commensurate with experience;
• Develop and implement creative case strategies and, along with the Managing Attorney, take part in training new staff;
• You will provide advice and technical assistance to community-based organizations engaged in policy advocacy;
• Participate in housing rights clinics with pro bono attorney volunteers and law students;
• Participate in other clinics and other community outreach projects;
• Other duties as assigned.
