Position Description: 

The Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP) works to guarantee that all people are free to self-determine their gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race, and without facing harassment, discrimination, or violence. SRLP is a collective organization founded on the understanding that gender self-determination is inextricably intertwined with racial, social, and economic justice. SRLP seeks to increase the political voice and visibility of low-income people and people of color who are transgender, intersex, or gender non-conforming. SRLP works to improve access to respectful and affirming social, health, and legal services for our communities. SRLP believes that in order to create meaningful political participation and leadership, we must have access to basic means of survival and safety from violence.​​

The Director of Development works directly with SRLP’s Fundraising and Finance Team and Collective to secure financial support for the organization and ensure the financial health and sustainability of SRLP. This position’s primary goals are to expand and build stronger relationships with our donor base and supporters and execute the organization’s fund development activities through foundation proposals, report writing, and research. The Director of Development will develop and implement annual fundraising strategies and plans through SRLP’s grassroots events, major donor campaigns, corporate initiatives, and institutional funding while integrating fundraising with organizing and communications strategies. This role also includes co-supervision with the team.​

​Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Work with the Fundraising and Finance Team and Collective to Develop and adapt fundraising strategies and budgets to support SRLP’s annual and long-range programmatic and organizational needs.​
Research, write, and track funding proposals and budgets to foundations, corporations, and government entities to obtain, increase, and diversify funding. ​
Develop and ensure timely submission of narrative and financial reports for current funders on an ongoing basis with the support of staff members. ​
Establish and cultivate good working relationships with institutional funders, corporate partners, and individual donors.​
Work with staff to produce the newsletter, annual report, and annual direct mail.​
Collaborate with staff to generate social media content and communications related to fundraising and development.​
Update and maintain funding, donor, and sales contact database.
Work collectively with staff and community members to ensure the health and sustainability of the organization.​

Hours and compensation: This position is a full-time, salaried position with medical, dental, and optical benefits and three weeks of paid vacation.40 hours/week, some evenings and weekends. $100,000/year. Consistent with our values as a collective, all staff receives salaries based on the same hourly rate.

Requirements: 

Skills and Experience Applicants must have: ❖Experience in public and private funding research, grant writing, and reporting. ❖Proven success in implementing fundraising events and campaigns over 10k. ❖Experience managing a successful individual giving program. ❖Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and respond quickly to new opportunities. ❖Ability to work independently in a highly collaborative environment. ❖Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proofreading and attention to detail. ❖Ability to compile, analyze, and synthesize large amounts of data/information. ❖Tech savvy with preferred proficiency in Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and CiviCRM. ❖Commitment to gender self-determination centered in racial and economic justice. ❖3-5 years of development and fundraising experience in the small non-profit sector. ❖Experience with budgeting. ❖Ability to work in a non-hierarchical collective. ❖Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
