Position Description: 

THE NEW HAMPSHIRE JUDICIAL COUNCIL seeks applications from persons interested in receiving an appointment to serve as its executive director. The Judicial Council serves as an institutional forum for the ongoing and disinterested consideration of issues affecting the administration of justice (N.H. R.S.A. 494:3). The executive director oversees an executive-branch state agency responsible for managing the delivery of indigent defense services in criminal cases, child protection cases, guardianship matters, and carries out other statutory duties. The agency is responsible for processing payments to attorneys, guardians ad litem, and vendors who provide services in indigent defense cases. The executive director works closely with the public defender program, attorneys who contract to provide indigent defense representation, civil legal assistance organizations, court-appointed special advocates, and others. The executive director also represents the agency before the legislature and executive branch on funding matters and other matters relating to the administration of justice, and serves on designated boards.

The successful candidate must be formally approved and appointed by the Council that oversees the agency.

Salary range is established by state statute (N.H. R.S.A. 94:1-a, HH).

Requirements: 

JD or advanced degree in public policy or government administration is preferred.
5 years progressively responsible management experience involving fianancial management and public policy, or equivalent.
10 years experience in criminal defense or equivalent familiarity with the New Hampshire criminal justice system.
