Position Description: 

The CA Civil Rights Department's Legal Division is seeking Legal Support Managers to directly supervise their Legal Secretaries, Legal Analysts (Paralegals), and other staff in support of the Division’s government investigations and civil litigations. The incumbent will supervise support staff located in Alameda, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and potentially other California Civil Rights Department (CRD) locations if needed.

The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that court documents are properly formatted and filed and, in the most sensitive matters may be personally responsible for preparing and filing the pleadings. Strong command of the Code of Civil Procedure, court rules and court technology interfaces is required for both CA State Superior Courts and CA District Courts to support the Division’s enforcement of the Fair Employment and Housing Act, Unruh Civil Rights Act, Disabled Persons Act, and Ralph Civil Rights Act, as well as other applicable laws and regulations. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for supervising legal analysts tasked to support a variety of government investigations and civil litigation and should have significant experience working with the civil discovery process and preparing trial materials.

The incumbent will also support the Staff Services Manager II in a variety of administrative matters including government contracts and procurement to support the Legal Division, preparation of internal and external reports.
