Position Description:

Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) seeks attorneys with 0-5 years’ experience for a long-term temporary position until December 31, 2022. The attorney will work in the Housing Unit in litigation representing tenants who are facing eviction due to the impact of COVID-19. The position will involve working on a team with paralegals to provide legal information, assistance and representation of tenants facing eviction due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with an emphasis on resolving nonpayment cases. The attorneys will participate in GBLS’s Housing Court attorney for the day projects both virtually (on zoom) and in person. The attorneys will have significant client contact and will work closely with community partners.

Salary is based on a union scale, which begins at $61,000 for an attorney who has just graduated law school.

Requirements: 

Massachusetts bar admission is required. Prior housing law and/or trial experience is preferred. Experience working with community organizers and organized client groups is preferred. Attorneys with lived experience of displacement or housing instability are encouraged to apply. This position is for an attorney with 0-5 years’ experience. Fluency in one or more of the languages in addition to English spoken by GBLS clients, such as Spanish or Haitian Creole, among others, is helpful but not required. Should funding for this position change, the attorney may be required to assume work in a different area of law within GBLS.
