Position Description: 

The Legal Aid Society of Hawaii, a non-profit law firm, endeavors to provide civil legal services throughout the State of Hawaii to those most in need. Position: Staff Attorney serving Maui County. Responsibilities include client representation in Family Law, (including divorce, divorce modification, paternity, restraining orders, child abuse and neglect and some guardianship and adoptions), Public Assistance Benefits, Housing and Consumer Protection, & Seniors Legal services. Staff Attorneys also participate in community engagement, outreach and education, statewide initiatives, and in and day–to-day oversight of non-attorney staff.

Compensation: $48,014 - $59,344, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits package including $150/month law school student loan repayment, medical and dental insurance, 401K match, life insurance, long term care insurance, and long term disability insurance. Requirements: 

Requirements:
Member in good standing of the Bar of the State of Hawai‘i or scheduled to take the July 2021 bar exam.
Litigation experience preferred.
Demonstrable commitment to social justice or experience working with disadvantaged and/or low-income population and survivors of domestic abuse strongly preferred.
Able to work collaboratively and maintain good working relationships with co-workers.
Culturally sensitive and able to work well with diverse, low-income populations.
Organizational skills to manage a busy litigation practice, meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks with attention to detail.
Able to work under pressure in an empathetic and professional manner.
Must have access to a car and ability to travel to various parts of Maui as well as availability to travel to Moloka‘i and Lana‘i as needed.
