Position Description: 

Position: We seek an experienced and energetic Senior Development Officer. The Senior Development Officer will assist with developing and executing strategies to substantially expand BayLegal's private and major donor fundraising and unrestricted financial support for the organization. BayLegal's Senior Development Officer, in consultation with BayLegal's Development Team, will:

  • Work with the Executive Director and Development Director to set and meet financial and non-financial goals for fundraising
  • Maintain and enhance BayLegal's individual donor program including: identification and qualification of prospects, relationship building plans and activities, strategic solicitation plans, stewardship and moves management plans, capital and other special campaigns
  • Work with the Board of Directors to build individual support for the organization, including the identification and cultivation of prospective donors
  • Conduct ongoing analyses of donor giving and produce reports to develop targeted donor growth and retention strategies
  • Conduct daily gift and data entry, produce acknowledgement letters, and maintain donor files and information in donor database (Salesforce)
  • Develop and maintain annual fundraising calendar, including all donor cultivation and solicitation activities
  • Assist/lead event planning and donor engagement/friend-raiser sessions
  • Participate in Board Development Committee meetings
  • Assist the Development Director, Director of External Affairs & Pro Bono, and Executive Director with various projects as needed
Requirements: 

Qualifications: The Senior Development Officer shall:

  • Be passionate about BayLegal's mission and possess an ability to understand and enthusiastically articulate the goals and vision of a multi-disciplined poverty law firm 
  • Possess a strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, solve problems, manage diverse activities and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate the ability to be entrusted with sensitive information and conduct daily activities with the utmost professionalism and integrity
  • Exhibit excellent speaking and writing skills
  • Be a creative problem solver with experience using a wide range of resources to accomplish complicated tasks and goals
  • Possess the ability to remain calm under pressure and to work well as a dedicated member of a dynamic team
  • Have demonstrated experience using fundraising software and understanding its value to the fundraising process. Experience with Salesforce is preferred
  • Understand the concept of relationship management and be able to apply the concept to his/her work
  • Preference given to candidates with fundraising experience with high wealth individuals within the San Francisco Bay Area
