GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Zealous representation of defense of indigent clients in Magistrate and Circuit Court criminal cases, appeals, and certain civil matters.
Position Functions:
* Represents clients at all stages of criminal court.
* Meets with clients to discuss rights, charges, penalties, and defenses.
* Prepares for hearing by going over police reports.
* Represents clients' best interests at all stages of court.
* Prepares for trial by interviewing witnesses.
* Researches cases.
* Counsel clients on appropriate options.
* Performs any additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education: Professional degree (Juris Doctor) Graduation from a college of law and attainment of JD or LLB.
Experience: 0-5 years
License and/or Certificate: Admission to practice law in South Dakota, or willingness to take the next available South Dakota bar exam.
