Legal Fellowship – Unaccompanied Children Legal Assistance Program (UCLAP)
The St. Frances Cabrini Center for Immigrant Legal Assistance is launching a one-year legal fellowship program to implement its Unaccompanied Children Legal Assistance Program.
DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for energetic attorneys who are committed to advancing justice for immigrants and in particular migrant children fleeing violence and civil strife in their home countries. The individual that fills this position will be responsible for:
◾Providing legal assistance to unaccompanied children in detention and upon their release in state courts and immigration proceedings,
◾Supervising caseworkers in the provision of legal assistance to the unaccompanied children,
◾Coordinating referral internally across units or externally with other legal services providers,
◾Performing client intake interviews,
◾Conducting community outreach and education on issues affecting unaccompanied children,
◾Managing a robust caseload in a fast-paced environment,
◾Providing regular reports on cases, issue trends and statistics for grant reporting purposes, and
◾Providing technical assistance to pro bono attorneys.
NOTE:
This position is grant-funded and may be extended beyond the one-year duration.
1.J.D. from an accredited law school;
2.Licensed to practice law in Texas and is in good standing, or be eligible to take the next available Texas Bar or be able to be admitted as an out-of-state attorney;
3.Proficiency in English and Spanish (speak, write, read) is required;
4.Immigration and Family Law experience strongly preferred;
5.Experience working with low-income immigrant community preferred, and
6.Must have reliable transportation, valid Texas Driver’s License and evidence of insurability
