Three Rivers Legal Services (TRLS) has an immediate opening for a Housing Law Project Manager. The Project Manager will work out of either our Gainesville or Jacksonville office. The Project Manager is a member of the TRLS management team. The Project Manager oversees the day-to-day operation of the Housing Law Project and has overall responsibility for the management, success, and functions of the project. TRLS is a nonprofit law firm that provides free legal assistance to low-income clients, the elderly and underserved populations. TRLS is dedicated to the provision of quality legal assistance and to community empowerment through preventive legal education and outreach. A desire to represent the needs of low-income clients and underserved populations is essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintains an appropriate workload of client cases in court or administrative proceedings and provides legal services to eligible clients through legal advice, brief services, negotiation, and representation in litigation in accordance with TRLS priorities and policies.
• Plans and maintains schedule for completion of tasks associated with the project, ensuring the schedule is adhered to or adjusted to accomplish milestones and deadlines.
• Assigns cases and other tasks to project staff members, actively monitors case progress on a periodic basis, and reviews assigned cases for quality and timeliness of legal work, documenting those reviews and related discussions.
• Conducts staff evaluations and works with the Advocacy and Litigation Directors to enhance the professional development and litigation skills of project staff.
• Works with the Intake, Advocacy, and Litigation Directors to identify cases that should be accepted for extended services by the office and to develop a protocol for which cases are selected.
• Supports project attorneys in their work and development by attending depositions, mediations, hearings and trials as appropriate and providing relevant feedback.
• Approves administrative requests from project staff, including leave requests.
• Regularly reports project updates to the Advocacy and Executive Directors.
• Maintains communication with project staff regarding case developments and developments in the law in the practice area.
• Coordinates continuing legal education activities for project staff members.
• Conducts closed case reviews for grant compliance and demonstrates considerable knowledge of compliance requirements.
• Utilizes working knowledge of the electronic case management system and word processing programs.
• Travels to and represents the program at meetings and other external functions, including outreach and presentations to local, state, and national organizations or governmental entities.
• Maintains and promotes relationships with clients, advocates, and community partners.
• Works in evenings and on weekends as required by professional responsibilities.
• Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Advocacy, Litigation, or Executive Directors or a designee.
Salary and Benefits: Salary DOE. Starting salary for a practitioner with eight (8) years of relevant experience is $110,000. Benefits package includes:

Qualifications:
• Attorney in good standing with the Florida Bar or admitted in another state and willing and able to gain admission in Florida within twelve (12) months of hire.
• Admitted in the United States District Courts for the Northern and Middle District of Florida, or willing and able to gain admission within sixteen (16) months of hire and willing and able to gain admission pro hac vice as needed prior to sixteen (16) months.
• Eight (8) or more years’ experience in legal services and/or professional law practice, with emphasis on landlord/tenant or other rental housing litigation. Candidates with five (5) or more years’ experience will be considered if they demonstrate exceptional capability.
• Discovery and trial experience in bench or jury trials.
• Previous experience in a supervisory or senior staff role is preferred.
• Excellent oral, written, and legal research skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to clients, attorneys, other professionals and the community.
• Proficiency with technology, including prior experience and skills in using an online electronic case management system, Microsoft Office, Google Suites, PDF editors, and other software as needed.
• Strong interest in public service and commitment to justice for low-income and underserved populations.
• Access to reliable transportation, insured, and have a valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to travel to client homes and rural communities.
