Micronesian Legal Services Corporation seeks a committed attorney to join its Anti-Domestic Violence Project, providing civil legal services to survivors of domestic violence in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), based on the island of Saipan.
This position offers the opportunity to provide meaningful, client-centered advocacy in a community where these services are critically needed—while living in a unique island setting with ocean views, picturesque sunsets, diverse cultures, and access to outdoor activities such as diving, with Asia just a short flight away.
Key Responsibilities
• Represent victims and survivors of domestic violence in civil protection orders, family law, housing, and related matters
• Work collaboratively with project staff to provide coordinated, trauma-informed legal services
• Develop and implement approaches that support effective, survivor-centered advocacy
• Build partnerships with local agencies and community organizations to strengthen responses to domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking
• Ensure compliance with grant requirements, including timely data collection and reporting • Conduct outreach as part of MLSC’s public awareness efforts
• Provide periodic in-person services on neighboring islands (Tinian and Rota) through same-day travel
Qualifications
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
• Admission to the CNMI Bar, or licensure in another U.S. jurisdiction and in good standing, with eligibility for temporary admission in CNMI (up to 4 years, extendable to 8 years)
• Demonstrated commitment to client-centered advocacy and access to justice
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Experience in family law, legal services, or related areas preferred
