Position Description: 

Idaho Legal Aid Services (ILAS) is seeking a full-time (37.5 hours/week) Domestic Violence Law Staff
Attorney for its Boise Office. This staff attorney will work on matters of civil legal representation
for survivors of domestic, dating, or sexual violence, stalking, and trafficking. Cases may include
representation across several practice areas but will focus predominantly on family law matters,
such as civil protection order, custody, divorce, paternity, and child support. This attorney will
also be expected to practice some other civil legal areas that may assist survivors including, but
not limited to, housing, consumer, and/or elder law. The Domestic Violence Law Staff Attorney
reports to the Boise Office’s Managing Attorney.

The Domestic Violence Law Staff Attorney’s duties will include providing legal services,
including but not limited to: managing cases and casework; calling and meeting with
clients; interviewing witnesses; trial preparation; researching and writing briefs
and memorandums; drafting complaints and other pleadings; and litigating. The attorney will be
expected to use professional judgment to manage a caseload. This attorney will draft written legal
education materials and conduct outreach and education to individuals and organizations that serve
our client community, including LGBTQIA, unhoused, refugee, immigrant, American Indian, and
Latinx groups.

Location Description: Boise, Idaho's capital, is a vibrant mid-sized city in southwestern Idaho,
nestled on the banks of the Boise River and at the foothills of the Boise Mountains, a subrange of
the Idaho-Bitterroot Rocky Mountain range. The metropolitan area is quickly growing and is
approximately 760,000 people. Boise is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise with easy access to
hiking, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing at Bogus Basin Mountain
Recreation. Boise also boasts almost 200 miles of hiking trails in its foothills. The city also has a
flourishing arts and entertainment scene, including the Treefort Music Festival, the Idaho Ballet,
the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, the Boise Philharmonic, a zoo, skate parks, and various theatres,
concert venues, and museums. Boise has a large park and greenbelt system around the Boise River
for walking, cycling, and picnicking. Locals also enjoy kayaking or floating the Boise River in the
summer. The Boise metropolitan area is consistently ranked as one of the best places to live, work,
and play in the U.S. by various publications.

Requirements: 

The applicant must hold a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited institution.
The applicant must be a member in good standing of the Idaho State Bar Association or be eligible
for admission to the Idaho State Bar by examination, UBE score transfer, or motion in the next
three months. The applicant must have an interest in poverty law and a passion for serving
vulnerable and at-risk populations. Extra consideration given to applicants with a history of public
service or fluency in languages relevant to our client community.
