Position Description: 

The First Judicial District Public Defender’s Office in Northeast Tennessee is seeking a passionate advocate to join our defense team. We ensure that constitutional rights are protected at every stage of the criminal process. This is a role where you will have a meaningful impact from day one — real courtroom experience, real impact, right away.

Carter, Johnson, Unicoi, and Washington Counties

Responsibilities
• Represent clients in General Sessions and Criminal Courts
• Conduct investigations, legal research, negotiations, and trial advocacy
• Build trust through consistent communication with clients
• Manage a varied caseload with professionalism and sound ethical judgment

Requirements: 

Qualifications
• J.D. and Tennessee license (or eligibility for immediate admission)
• Commitment to criminal defense and public service
• Strong communication and advocacy skills
