This positions is for law school graduates who have not yet been fully licensed to practice law in New York State. Upon obtaining a New York State license to practice law, the incumbent will be appointed to a position of Assistant Public Defender with the corresponding salary grade.
This work involves responsibility for assisting in the representation of indigent petitioners and respondents in Criminal or Family Courts as assigned by the Public Defender.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a J.D., LL.B. or LL.M. Degree.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: The incumbent must obtain a license to practice law within one (1) year of the date of permanent appointment.
