Position Description: 

Neighborhood Legal Services Program of the District of Columbia is seeking an Assistant to the Director of Administration and HR Coordinator. The Assistant provides administrative and HR support to the Director of Administration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration

Provides direct support to the Director of Administration to include managing and maintaining an active calendar of appointments and preparing correspondence that may be confidential and sensitive, and providing significant administrative assistance.
Manages communications between the Director of Administration, Executive Director, and staff.
Schedules and handles meeting logistics for the Director of Administration, committees, and various other meetings and programs, including coordination with outside vendors as requested.
Researches, prioritizes, and follows up on incoming issues and concerns addressed to the Director of Administration, including those of sensitive and/or confidential nature, and determines the appropriate course of action, referral, or response.
Manage and track key projects, including benchmarking, reporting, and coordinating with Director of Administration, Executive Director, vendors, and colleagues.
Advised of time-sensitive and priority issues, ensuring appropriate follow-up.
Drafts and edits memoranda, correspondence, reports, and other documents.
Handles inquiries on behalf of the Director of Administration from the public.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Human Resources

Manage job recruitment process.
Manage employee onboarding and offboarding.
Manage bi-weekly payroll process.
Manage and administer employee benefits.
Assist in the development of HR initiatives.
Oversee the professional development/training program.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary commensurate with experience, starting at $61,058 to $73,913 for 15 years of experience. Benefits package which includes employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance; employer-subsidized family health coverage; paid vacation, holidays, personal days and sick leave; 8-week parental leave for birth or adoption of a child; employer-paid life and long-term disability insurance; 403(b) Thrift Plan (voluntary retirement savings program); and tax-free transit benefits.

Job Type: Full-time

Requirements: 

Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience; at least 2 years assisting on administrative, and/or human resource matters and providing project support for a director or executive.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be detail oriented and deadline driven. Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Must work well in a team environment and be able to interact with NLSP employees and the public.
Must work well under pressure, possess excellent organizational abilities, and able to manage several priorities in a day.
Must be adaptable, creative, and self-motivated.
Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information
Bachelor’s degree.
Experience working in a similar nonprofit organization.
