Organization Overview:
Lakeshore Legal Aid serves people living with low income, older adults, and survivors of domestic violence
and sexual assault in a holistic manner to address clients’ legal issues and improve our communities. Lakeshore provides free, direct legal representation in southeast Michigan and the thumb and client intake, advice, and brief legal services throughout Michigan via our attorney-staffed hotline. Our practice areas include housing, family, consumer, elder, education, and public benefits law.
Position Overview:
Lakeshore Legal Aid is seeking an experienced leader to serve as its Chief Culture Officer. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and serving on the Executive Team, this role will advance Lakeshore’s mission and prepare staff to serve clients throughout its diverse communities. The CCO’s primary responsibilities include:
• Working across the organization at all levels and within all departments to ensure that Lakeshore’s underlying values of inclusiveness, dignity, and respect are clear, communicated, and understood and are reflected in Lakeshore Legal Aid’s culture.
• Implementing organization-wide training and feedback listening groups focused on developing Lakeshore’s culture of dignity and respect internally and in the community;
• Leading Lakeshore’s Employee Relations team to help deepen and strengthen an inclusive and respectful culture and reinforce these principles in hiring and workplace conditions to help staff better support our clients;
• Establish communication guidelines to ensure that internal and external communications reflect Lakeshore’s values and practices and reduce barriers to clients accessing our services;
• Playing a key role on the Executive Team and providing guidance and support for senior leaders’ work as inclusive leaders and managers;
• Championing Lakeshore’s culture in our board, staff, and client populations.
Qualifications:
• Juris Doctor highly preferred
• Admission to Michigan Bar (or ability to be admitted through reciprocity) preferred.
• Demonstrated commitment to public interest work.
• Experience leading teams or organizations and developing a respectful and inclusive culture.
• Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
• Ability to organize, plan, prioritize, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
• Flexibility.
