Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Non-Union position)
Salary: $24.71 to $30.80 per hour

The Payroll Clerk provides bookkeeping support to the organization. This position reports to and receives directions from the Controller and works closely with the Fiscal Officer for Accounting. The Payroll Clerk is responsible for a variety of bookkeeping duties including processing payroll and payroll-related functions, processing employee reimbursements, assisting with accounts payable, and supporting general Fiscal operations. Although the majority of the work will involve performing payroll activities, the Payroll Clerk may be called upon to complete other bookkeeping or general clerical tasks.

DUTIES
• Responsible for all payroll preparation and processing;
• Collect all timesheets from staff and review for accuracy;
• Accurately maintain and promptly update employee information in the Payroll system;
• Process payroll adjustments related to vacation, leaves of absence, donations, change of benefit plans and work closely with Human Resources on these functions;
• Review payroll input worksheets for accuracy;
• Transmit payroll to the payroll processing company;
• Maintaining payroll operations by following policies and procedures prescribed by CCLS;
• Review & respond to government inquiries regarding payroll, for example, SDI, SUI, EDD, Workers Comp, etc.;
• With the assistance of the Fiscal Officer, reconcile tax-deferred annuities, health benefits, and other payroll computations for invoice coding and accounting reports;
• Process employee mileage and expense reimbursements;
• Monitor the Fiscal Operations Email Inbox and route requests accordingly;
• Operate office equipment, including ten-key, computers, copy machines, printers, multi-line modern telephone systems, fax machines, scanners, and other equipment;
• May perform other duties as assigned and other clerical tasks including typing, filing, processing and maintaining records, composing and editing reports and correspondence, delivering or picking up materials.

Requirements: 

• Prior payroll experience;
• Strong computer skills such as typing, system and software knowledge;
• Knowledge of wage withholding orders;
• Accurate data entry skills with great attention to detail;
• Excellent communication and soft skills, both verbal and written, to communicate with employees regarding their issues and concerns;
• Being an effective team player;
• Sound decision-making skills;
• Ability to multitask in a stressful environment with specific deadlines;
• Ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment;
• Confidentiality and respect for the privacy of employee records;
• Ability to work accurately, efficiently, and neatly;
• Knowledge of and exercise of proper telephone usage;
• Learn and apply the policies and practices of CCLS’s Fiscal Department;
• Perform basic mathematical computations;
• Alphabetize, file, and maintain various financial records;
• Interact tactfully and courteously with the public, clients, vendors, and fellow staff;
• Operate modern office equipment including computer hardware, software, and internet- and web-based applications;
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
• Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels as well as with the public;
• Display a high degree of maturity, integrity and good judgment.
