Position Description: 

Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE), a non-profit law firm with a long history of representing people living in poverty in immigration issues throughout Ohio, seeks an Attorney to represent clients in immigration court, state courts, and administrative proceedings. Our Dayton, Springfield, and Columbus client communities are growing rapidly, and we seek a passionate attorney to join our highly collaborative Agricultural Worker and Immigrant Rights’ practice group. ABLE embraces a hybrid work environment. This position is based in the Dayton office, but the attorney will represent clients living in Dayton, Springfield, and Columbus, so travel to those locations to meet with clients and to courts and USCIS offices is required.

The attorney will represent clients in U Visa, T Visa, affirmative and defensive asylum, and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, Temporary Protected Status, VAWA self-petitions, and ancillary applications. This work involves representation before EOIR, USCIS, and possibly state and federal courts. This attorney will coordinate pro se asylum, TPS, and other legal clinics, depending upon the needs of our client communities.

Salary range is $58,000 - $83,000, based on years of applicable experience. Excellent fringe benefits, including health insurance, supplemental language compensation, paid parental leave, and loan repayment assistance. ABLE attorneys with 5 or more years of relevant experience may apply for a promotion to Senior Attorney.

Requirements: 

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of immigration legal practice experience. Membership in Ohio Bar or ability to be admitted by motion or temporary certification is required. Excellent legal, communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills are required. Strong record of cultural competence and cross-cultural communication skills is required. Experience working with interpreters is helpful. A sense of humor and collegiality are also highly valued.
