Under the supervision of the Mitigation Services Program Director, the Client Advocate plays a crucial role in the Public
Defender’s Office by working closely with a diverse group of professionals as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Provides
a holistic approach to legal representation, dedicated advocacy, and support for adult criminal defendants, aiming to
achieve optimal legal and personal outcomes. This position must adhere to the rules of confidentiality under the attorneyclient relationship.
The Client Advocate provides case management and supports coordination to indigent criminal case defendants. Specific
duties may include bio-psychosocial interviewing and assessment, social history investigation, forensic case management,
advocacy for clients within court carceral settings, mental health and social service systems, fostering family interactions
and intervention, treatment and sentence planning, report writing, testifying and making direct connections between
clients and programs.
Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services (social work, social science, psychology, forensic psychology, or
related field). Experience in criminal justice and/or family court is preferred. Must have valid driver’s license. Satisfactory
criminal background check is contingent upon offer of employment.
