Vladeck, Raskin & Clark, P.C. established in New York City in 1949 is a preeminent employment law firm that expanded into criminal defense in 2010 when partner Susan Walsh joined the firm.. The candidate will work directly with and benefit from the mentorship of Susan Walsh, who has extensive criminal defense experience on the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal courts, has been recognized for her extensive bar work and pro bono clemency representation, and has taught trial advocacy and related courses for more than a decade.
This position offers an attorney with a passion for representing the accused the opportunity to delve into all aspects of criminal defense on the trial and appellate level and expand into civil litigation. Vladeck seeks an experienced criminal defense attorney to join a team that considers client service its utmost value and adheres to the philosophy that effective legal representation must embrace a holistic approach to meeting the needs of the individual client. This associate position will also be afforded the opportunity to learn and assist in plaintiff’s side employment and disability cases.
This position is not a traditional 9 – 5 job and Vladeck is not a traditional law firm. The firm strives to operate as a team with each lawyer bringing their individual talents to work together toward ensuring the highest quality client service. Core Responsibilities
Management of criminal cases from inception to trial and beyond.
Draft and prepare reports, briefs, motions, and correspondence.
Review, analyze, and digest discovery materials.
Regular court appearances, while managing out-of-court case responsibilities.
Maintenance of regular, effective, and compassionate communication with clients, including jail visits.
Participation in potential new client consultations and involvement in client cultivation.
Litigation of applications, motions, hearings, and trials.
Develop skills in civil litigation, particularly employment and disability rights law.
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Minimum of three years’ experience in a criminal defense practice either in federal court or in a U.S. state or local jurisdiction. Please do not apply with less than three years’ experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds and lived experiences.
Demonstrated commitment to challenging government overreach and unfairness in the criminal process.
Criminal trial experience, including litigation of hearings and jury trials.
The ability to handle the pressure and responsibilities of a criminal defense practice.
Commitment to continuously seek professional and personal development through participation in CLEs and trial skills courses.
