Position Description

The Campaign for Equal Justice (CEJ), the support organization for Oregon’s statewide legal aid programs, is looking for an Annual Fund Director. Oregon’s legal aid programs provide free civil legal services to low-income Oregonians in areas such as safety from domestic violence, income maintenance, safe housing and consumer protection. The CEJ works to educate lawyers, other members of the legal community, and the public about the civil legal needs of the poor, operates a robust annual fund drive, and helps to increase government and foundation support for legal aid. The Annual Fund Director will oversee the CEJ’s annual fundraising campaign. Duties will include recruiting and retaining volunteers, planning virtual and in-person events, and overseeing annual fund communications (letters, emails, web copy, social media, annual report, and fundraising materials). The Annual Fund Director reports to the Executive Director. Other organizational staff include the Director of Operations (second in charge) and Program Assistant.

Specific duties:

Annual Fund
• Oversee development and coordination of all aspects of annual fundraising campaign to plan and achieve annual fundraising goals;
• Help develop themes for the annual fundraising campaign;
• Recruit, manage, and support CEJ volunteers including staffing committees (currently apx 300 volunteers);
• Provide campaign progress reports to committees, management, and Board;
• Assist in developing, overseeing and organizing CEJ events (approximately 10 events per year);
• Assist in developing and producing annual fundraising campaign materials (solicitation letters, brochures, developing client stories, handouts, etc.).

Education and Outreach
• Assist with designing curriculum for access to justice CLEs and other CLEs and presentations;
• Assist in communications strategy and execution. This includes working on big picture messaging, media relations (press releases and articles), and developing CEJ materials;
• Write and produce regional newsletters about legal aid offices and local communities;
• Help design and produce the CEJ’s Annual Report;
• Maintain CEJ’s social media accounts.

The Annual Fund Director position is an exempt, salaried position with expected full time hours during regular office hours 9:00-5:00 and occasional after hours or weekend work during the height of the fundraising campaign. The CEJ offers full employee benefits including health, vision, and dental insurance; retirement plan; and PTO. The position is exempt/salaried and the compensation range is $65,000 - $79,000 DOE.

• Problem-solving ability and strong attention to detail;
• Experience managing, organizing, motivating, and directing volunteers;
• Demonstrated ability to organize own work, coordinate and implement projects, set and communicate priorities, meet deadlines and follow up on assignments with minimal direction;
• Ability to work cooperatively;
• Strong organizational and administrative skills;
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills (including an aptitude and willingness to do public speaking);
• Flexibility and the ability to produce high quality work in a fast-paced environment;
• Demonstrated commitment to the mission of promoting access to justice;
• Demonstrated computer skills: proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint); experience with email blast programs (or demonstrated ability to quickly learn new programs); experience managing organizational social media a plus;
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent;
• Minimum of four years’ work experience with increasing responsibility (fundraising experience a strong preference). Equivalent education/experience may substitute for minimum qualifications;

Physical Demands: sitting and using office equipment and computers. Lifting/moving supplies and materials from time to time. Occasional in state travel.
