Pro Bono Advocacy Director – Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc.
Full-time Exempt Position

Legal Services of Greater Miami (Legal Services) is a non-profit law firm which provides free civil legal assistance to low-income people in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.

Legal Services is seeking a full-time Florida licensed attorney to work on creating and managing dynamic advocacy projects and promoting the delivery of high-quality legal services by volunteer lawyers, law students, paralegals, and other professionals in coordination with Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc. attorneys and staff. Applicants should have at least 7 years’ experience practicing law in the private or public interest sector, and a member in good standing of the Florida Bar. Experience in a private law firm or corporate law department is a plus, but not required.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Work with the senior management team to develop Legal Services’ long-term programmatic and strategic pro bono goals and objectives to ensure appropriate development of pro bono programs and services which are integrated with staff services.
Lead the development of pro bono programs to advance Legal Services’ mission and to integrate pro bono advocacy with the services provided by its’ staff. Create innovative approaches to address the justice gap with the use of pro bono attorneys and other volunteers.
Recruit private attorneys to participate in Legal Services’ pro bono program.
Train, mentor and support pro bono volunteers. When appropriate, co-counsel with pro bono attorneys.
Maintain a limited case load, with cases from all substantive areas, to remain knowledgeable about legal issues and clients’ legal needs.
Supervise the operation of Legal Services’ pro bono clinics.
Oversee volunteer recognition, including events, publications, and social media.
Oversee non-attorney volunteer opportunities at Legal Services, including internships, and volunteer law students. This includes oversight of recruitment, training, placement and supervision.
In collaboration with Legal Services’ senior management, administer and manage grants for pro bono services to ensure compliance, including development of the annual Private Attorney Involvement Plan.
Develop internal policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality pro bono services, including case oversight and reporting.
In coordination with the Chief Program and Innovation Officer, develop and utilize technology systems to administer and promote pro bono opportunities.
Maintain, expand, and create pro bono relationships with law firms, corporate law departments, and other attorneys throughout Miami-Dade County and Monroe County.
Promote Legal Services’ pro bono activities and opportunities to provide volunteer service through the development of written materials, speaking engagements, participation in conferences, and presentations to law firms, corporate legal departments, community groups, the media, and others.
Participate in local and state pro bono committees and activities to build local, regional, and statewide partnerships to promote pro bono service by members of the Miami-Dade County and Monroe County legal profession.
Perform other duties related to the position’s Essential Functions and Responsibilities as may be requested or required.

Salary/Benefits:
80K commensurate with experience. Excellent fringe benefits, including 401(k) retirement plan, as well as life, health, and disability insurance. Also eligible for Loan Repayment Assistance Program.

Requirements: 

Qualifications:
Minimum seven years’ legal experience practicing law in the private or public interest sector, and a member in good standing of the Florida Bar. Experience in a private law firm or corporate law department is a plus, but not required.
Demonstrates commitment to legal services for low-income people.
Possess a high level of legal proficiency, and continuously develop and expand legal skills and substantive knowledge.
Knowledgeable about civil legal issues which impact low-income clients, and the ability to identify a variety of legal strategies to resolve problems of the low-income community.
Ability to design and implement case management system protocols and policies.
Demonstrates the exercise of good judgment and strong decision-making skills.
Demonstrates the ability to supervise, train and mentor.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrates the ability and knowledge to develop and manage projects. Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Demonstrates a high level of professionalism and integrity by:
