Position Description: 

The King County Department of Public Defense is recruiting skilled, energetic advocates committed to providing high-quality legal representation to indigent clients and joining us in our fight to dismantle a harmful and racist system. We’re looking for dedicated, hard-working attorneys who possess excellent trial, research, and writing skills and an ability to think critically and creatively in a fast-paced environment. DPD practices in several areas, including felonies, misdemeanors, juvenile defense, family defense (dependency cases), involuntary commitment (mental illness), sex offender commitment, and contempt of court. Candidates must be dedicated to serving racially and socioeconomically marginalized communities and contributing to an anti-oppressive workplace environment. Consider joining our team!

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advocacy for disadvantaged individuals and/or to issues of economic, social, and racial justice.
  • Demonstrated analytical, research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage a caseload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to exercise excellent judgment, discretion, and confidentiality around sensitive issues.
  • Admission to Washington State Bar Association or licensing in other states qualifying for a license under Rule 8.

$70,773 - $130,508 + excellent benefits
