NLADA Sends Comments to Department of Education (ED) on the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program

Washington, August 16, 2022 — The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) has submitted the comments to the Department of Education (ED) on the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program (Docket Number ED-2021-OPE-0077).

NLADA’s comments support proposed changes that would expand access to PSLF and urge the Department of Education to:

  • Extend the PSLF Limited Waiver deadline beyond Oct. 31st.
  • Establish an expansive reconsideration process for those who may have been denied but are indeed eligible.
  • Expand eligibility to public servants who do not receive W-2 forms, including many public defenders.

NLADA’s comments, dated August 11, 2022, are available for review online. To learn more and/or speak with an NLADA subject matter expert, please contact [email protected].
