Job Summary:
LSNV is seeking to hire a full-time Staff Attorney to represent victims of crime, particularly victims of domestic violence, in various civil cases, including protective orders, family law matters, and other civil cases arising out of the victimization. Further, the position will focus on recruiting, training, and mentoring pro bono volunteers; and engage in outreach to – and education for – under-represented and immigrant communities. This position will be primarily based in LSNV’s Fairfax Office and is funded by the VOCA grant.
Essential Functions (include but are not limited to):
• Maintain full and diverse caseload
• Conduct outreach and community legal education
• Attend office and other program meetings
• Remain up to date on professional materials and other communications which are related to the job
• Develop relationships with other community partners
• Maintain general knowledge of substantive area
• Must be licensed with the Virginia State Bar, or have two years of practice in another state (LAC Rule 1A:9)
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, racial justice, and/or public interest work, strongly preferred
• Proven experience in community engagement and advocacy
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Availability for flexible work schedule, commitment to evenings and weekends, preferred
• Strong litigation experience, preferred
• Legal aid experience, strongly preferred
• Multi-lingual (verbal and written), preferred
