The Interim Public Defender shall be responsible for administration of the Schuyler County Public Defender’s Office, its team of attorneys (assistant public defenders) and support/clerical staff in the discharge of their various responsibilities. The work involves responsibility for directing the investigation and preparation of cases, and ensuring counsel is provided to clients at every stage of the proceedings. The Interim Public Defender shall initiate such proceedings as are necessary to protect the rights of each client. In addition, the Interim Public Defender may assign professional, technical and clerical personnel in the investigation, preparation, conduct and appeal in any court proceedings involving financially eligible persons. Must be well experienced in providing criminal defense and family court legal services. Individual offerers participating in the services proposed to be rendered must have at least ten (10) years of experience providing criminal defense legal services. Non-profit tax-exempt business entities must be organized for the purpose of providing legal services and must have a minimum of three years of relevant experience providing the type of services required under this RFP, any staff assigned through such business entitles shall have at least ten (10) years of experience providing criminal defense legal services. Additionally, successful offerors will have skill and experience in office administration to include supervision of staff as well as development and monitoring of departmental budget. Due to the nature of the position and the services to be provided hereinunder, offerors shall be prohibited from simultaneously serving as any part-time town, village, county, state or federal prosecutor during the term of any resulting contract.
