Position Description: 

Position Overview: Florida Rural Legal Services. Inc. (FRLS), the non-profit legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to eligible low income and elderly persons approved by program policies and priorities in areas such as housing; domestic violence related family and other family law matters, public benefits, consumer law, elder law, education, immigration, and civil rights. FRLS seeks an effective, experienced, energetic, motivated and personable Attorney to work in our hotline under the supervision of the Intake Supervising Managing Attorney, this position handles all clients coming from our call center, online intake, and clients walking into our offices.

Job Summary:

1. Provide counsel and advice and limited service to clients via our intake systems;

2. Triage walk-in requests for assistance;

3. Work closely with intake screeners and intake paralegals;

4. Ensure timely and appropriate responses to requests for legal assistance;

5. Collect client data for grant reporting purposes;

6. Conduct trainings and outreach to community-based organizations and community groups;

7. Coordinate with other assistance organizations in the area by implementing partner meetings to assure appropriate and efficient coverage of services;

8. Travel regularly to FRLS locations to conduct client intake, prepare legal forms and client declarations; 9. Work in conjunction with the staff attorneys;

10. Strategize on improving client access to FRLS.

11. Conduct intake meetings with new clients

12. Communicate daily with FRLS managing attorneys and leaders using multiple mediums (ie. Email, written reports, one on one presentations, etc.)

13. Provide real-time daily backup and legal support to intake staff in all FRLS office locations; 14. Assist the Intake Advice Line manager with organization of the clerical and administrative functions of the Intake Unit.

15. Provide technical assistance and legal advice to outside attorneys;

16. Assist in maintaining accurate, confidential records documenting services provided;

17. Ensure that intake office duties and special projects are timely completed;

18. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements: 

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school.
Barred in Florida. Knowledge of State and Federal court procedures preferred.
Some knowledge of the legal system, commitment to the mission of FRLS and compassion for the clients.
Ability to forge positive relationships with prospects and colleagues.
Good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively, yet independently.
Must be able to effectively and efficiently maximize existing resources.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint). Knowledge of CMS a plus.
Must be able to effectively work in high-pressure situations which involve deadlines. Bilingual English and Spanish or Haitian Creole preferred, but not required.
