The Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH or Department) is the civil rights enforcement agency for the State of California. DFEH’s mission is to protect all people in California from employment, housing, and public accommodation discrimination, human trafficking, and hate violence.
Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel, the Attorney V is the top expert in systemic litigation of complex cases involving discrimination, including group and class cases. The Attorney V independently investigates and litigates group or class cases in which large numbers of persons are adversely impacted by systemic causes, advises the Chief Counsel, and Assistant Chief Counsels about related issues. The Attorney V functions in a lead capacity and mentors other attorneys in the Legal Division. The Attorney V may be assigned primary research and decision-making authority, subject to higher level review, for matters within his/her area of expertise.
