Position Description: 

Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO), a non-profit law firm that provides free legal help in civil legal matters to eligible individuals and groups in western Ohio, seeks a supervising attorney for our housing advocacy. This position may be located in LAWO’s Toledo, Defiance, Findlay, or Lima offices.

LAWO’s Housing Advocacy focuses on representing tenants experiencing issues with their housing, including eviction defense and other advocacy efforts to prevent homelessness and improve family stability. This project will also involve advocacy efforts related to working closely with community-based partners.

The Supervisor position is a leadership position in the law firm. The Supervising Attorney will assist with the implementation and management of LAWO’s housing advocacy, as well as supervising the project staff and their legal work.

Requirements: 

Excellent legal and communication skills; experience with computer software and Microsoft Office; ability to relate well with people living in poverty; and commitment to legal services required. Previous experience in areas of housing or poverty law in general is highly preferred. Remote work is likely; however, court appearances are required. Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish is helpful. Membership in Ohio Bar or ability to be admitted by motion or temporary certification is required.
