Position Description: 

Community Legal Aid (CLA) is the non-profit legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to low-income residents of central and western Massachusetts. CLA has over 140 dedicated, talented staff working across multiple offices. Our core work includes effective client-centered advocacy and robust outreach to and partnerships with our client communities.

CLA seeks an intake paralegal to assist tenants at risk of eviction and homelessness. This position is temporary and funded through December 31, 2022. Under the direction of CLA attorneys, the intake paralegals will interview prospective clients; assess client eligibility; gather client documents; record client information using CLA's computerized record-keeping system; attend and participate in scheduled unit meetings; and, when appropriate, provide advice or make referrals to other resources. The intake paralegal may participate in and help coordinate CLA's Housing Court Lawyer-for-the-Day program, which may be virtual or in-person. The intake paralegal will work out of CLA's Worcester office.

Requirements: 

Graduate of an accredited high school or its equivalent required. Paralegal studies/Certificate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
Must be fluent in English and Spanish.
Capacity to identify and analyze legal and other problems.
Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to be part of an interactive, supportive team with high expectations.
A demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse backgrounds, and commitment to working with low-income communities.
