Position Description:

The Central West Justice Center (CWJC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Community Legal Aid (CLA). Together, these two programs provide a full range of civil legal services to the low-income and elderly residents of central and western Massachusetts. Through the effective advocacy of CLA and CWJC in more than 6,000 cases each year, some of the most vulnerable residents of the region obtain safe and stable housing; access unemployment, disability and other benefits to stabilize their income; break free from domestic violence; get needed services in school; and obtain humanitarian-based immigration relief. CWJC currently has over 20 staff working across multiple offices.

CWJC seeks a Director to oversee the programmatic, personnel, administrative, and financial matters of the program in close and frequent collaboration with CLA's senior management team. The Director will work closely with front-line staff and ensure that they have the support and supervision they need to deliver high quality legal services and conduct effective outreach; conduct periodic program-wide staff meetings; work with senior supervising attorneys to write the annual performance reviews of all program staff and to ensure that the program's staff receive training in their respective areas of work; be the first point of contact for clients or applicants for services who have grievances or complaints; handle personnel issues arising in the program and attend regular labor-management meetings; assist in handling issues arising with the physical plant; and prepare comprehensive reports for the Board of Managers on program activities, problems and opportunities. The Director may also assist in writing grant applications and reports. The Director will be based in CWJC's Springfield or Worcester office, but will spend part of the workweek at each of those two offices and occasionally visit CWJC's other offices as needed.
