Morris & Sullivan P.C. is hiring a full-time investigator to join our criminal defense firm. We have offices in Hood River and The Dalles. Although we are a private law firm, we have been the primary defense contractor in the Gorge for over 25 years and our practice is 100% criminal defense and juvenile law. The investigator works directly with our nine attorney team and conducts all requested investigations, interviews witnesses, gathers necessary records, takes photographs, gathers evidence and acts as litigation and case support. They are required to maintain an organized caseload and current filing system; assist with clerical functions and office duties as required; maintain accurate and legible records including current log notes; and make photocopies and generate computer reports. The investigator has a dedicated office space in The Dalles but is also expected to split time with the Hood River office.

The candidate should have at least a high school diploma or GED. Education or experience as an investigator or in the legal or social service fields is preferred. Spanish fluency is preferred. The ideal candidate has knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to use a computer to search, enter, update, correct, and retrieve information. We are looking for someone that can deal effectively with people of widely divergent backgrounds. We expect our investigator to be able to relate empathetically to our clients and try to accommodate any special needs. All employees must be able to maintain strict client confidentiality. The investigator must serve subpoenas on witnesses; we are looking for someone who is comfortable talking to strangers and can stay calm and reasonable even in challenging circumstances.
Our investigator is required to access clients and witnesses in correctional facilities. They must be able to travel to the courthouse or other criminal justice system facilities to see clients and witnesses. The investigator may have to transport or arrange for the transportation of files, trial notebooks, evidence, exhibits, and other related materials to and from the courthouse and other criminal justice system facilities. They may be required to testify during court proceedings.
Regular office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Morris & Sullivan P.C. offers competitive compensation, commensurate with experience.
