Stanislaus County invites qualified candidates who are experienced in the practice of criminal law and possess strong leadership, administrative, and communication skills to serve as Public Defender. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the legal activities and services of the Public Defender’s Office, and will carry out the objectives of the Board of Supervisors by supporting Strong and Safe Neighborhoods. This at-will position is appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
The Ideal Candidate will have seven (7) years of experience as an attorney, five (5) of which will include intensive trial experience as a criminal law attorney AND experience in a Stanislaus County Public Defender supervisory or administrative management capacity; OR three (3) years of experience in a supervisory or administrative management capacity over attorney’s providing legal counsel and indigent defense services;
Active Membership in the State Bar of California in good standing is required for all qualified applicants.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Extensive, in-depth leadership and management experience directing and supporting professional staff in the provision of legal services.
