New York County Defender Services, a public defender office in Manhattan, is seeking an attorney for its DNA & Forensic Science Unit. The unit assists our trial attorneys with the difficult and complex issues surrounding the use of DNA and other forensic evidence in criminal cases.
Members of this unit attend and conduct specialized trainings and collaborate with legal scholars, scientists, and others in the field and in the defense bar to stay current in the rapidly evolving landscape of DNA and other forensic science litigation.
The unit also participates in advocacy efforts concerning the intersection between forensic science and the criminal justice system, ensuring that the voices of our client communities are heard in these public discussions.
The attorney should have significant expertise and experience in DNA and other forensic science criminal litigation.
The ideal candidate must have:
- Admission to the NYS Bar.
- Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team and manage a high-volume workload.
