Chief Executive Officer

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) reports to the PLF Board of Directors for overall management and operations of the organization. Key areas of responsibility include internal personnel management and claims management, budgeting, investment allocation, practice and risk management, and mental health services. In addition, the CEO maintains relationships with the organization’s constituents, including licensed Oregon attorneys, the Oregon State Bar (OSB), the public and reinsurers.
Responsibilities
• Staff/Internal Management: Maintains effective communication with appropriate cross-functional teams and initiatives in development. Enforces adherence to legal guidelines and in-house policies to maintain the integrity and ethical conduct by all PLF staff. Collaborates with all levels in the organization including leading the implementation of Board initiatives while advancing employee engagement and developing a high performing managerial team.
• Stakeholder Relations and Communications: Builds trust relations with covered attorneys across the state of Oregon, the Courts, the state legislature, and other Oregon legal institutions including the OSB and Board of Governors. Maintain professional credibility with all stakeholders.
• PLF Primary & Excess Plan Coverage: Reviews and proposes changes to coverage plans as needed and review annual assessment adjustments.
• Excess Program: Manages the operation of excess program including underwriting protocols while nurturing existing relationship and negotiate coverage rates with reinsurer.
• Risk Management: Oversees Practice Management (claim prevention) mental health services, and communications over multiple platforms including blog, website, and on-site speaking engagements.
• Oregon Attorney Assistance: Responsible for oversight and support of attorney counselors and mental health providers focused on legal professionals.
• Finance/Asset Management: Collaborates with CFO to assure proper investment and management of PLF assets.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
An attorney licensed to practice in Oregon and in good standing with the OSB.
•
o Knowledge of the PLF and the Oregon legal community.
o Legal experience in a private practice, non-profit, government, quasi-government, and/or a corporate setting.
o Experience or exposure to civil litigation.
