Latino Memphis’ Derechos Program has an immediate opening for a Legal Assistant to work directly with our Immigration Attorneys in a high volume, fast-paced office environment and is seeking a qualified and dedicated bilingual legal assistant to join our Derechos legal staff team.
Latino Memphis’ legal program, “Derechos”, represents clients in immigration court and before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Types of cases we represent:
Adjustment of Status
Asylum and Withholding of Removal
DACA Renewal
Petitions for Alien Relative
U-Visa petitions for those who have been victims of crime
T-Visa petitions for those who have been victims of human trafficking
Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Self-Petitions.
Derechos provides low-cost and pro-bono legal representation to individuals in the Memphis Immigration Court, and before USCIS to more effectively advocate for them in cancellation of removal, asylum, SIJS cases, and other forms of relief.
Primary responsibility is assisting the attorneys.
The ideal candidate is a Legal Assistant with experience in USCIS filings, calendaring and scheduling events, file maintenance (digital and hard copy), organization, and basic letter-writing.

Experience as a Legal Assistant for an Immigration Firm or organization is required.
DOJ accreditation is a plus
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Must possess good communication skills.
Must possess strong organizational skills and be highly detail-oriented.
Experience or familiarity in immigration law
Fluent in Spanish (written and verbal) preferred.
