Position Description: 

Community Legal Aid (CLA) is the legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to low-income and elderly residents of central and western Massachusetts. CLA has a diverse staff of over 100 dedicated and talented people working collaboratively across multiple community-based offices in our service area.

CLA seeks a staff attorney to work for a two-year period, with the possibility of extension, in its Springfield office on a project designed to help victims of crime with a wide variety of civil legal matters. It is anticipated that the attorney will work on cases involving a full range of domestic relations issues; access to housing, benefits, school-based services, and health insurance programs; and elder abuse. The position is funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance to provide holistic services to victims of crime. In addition to representing individual clients, the attorney will engage in community outreach and education, and will work closely with community partners.

Requirements: 

QUALIFICATIONS: Admission to Mass. Bar or eligible to sit for next Mass. Bar examination. Fluency in Spanish and prior experience in poverty law preferred, as is experience working with diverse communities. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a collaborative setting are important.
