Position Description: 

YWCA Tulsa has offered innovative and inclusive services to the immigrant and refugee community of Tulsa for almost 30 years. Services include adult education with a family literacy focus includes English language, high school equivalency and citizenship classes; refugee social services with a focus on employment; interpretation and translation services; and high-quality, low-cost immigration legal services with a focus on family reunification, adjustment of status, citizenship, and related legal services needed by refugees. Services are provided by a multicultural and multilingual staff with first language proficiency in Arabic, Burmese, Russian and Spanish.

Responsible for overseeing the Legal Services Program including supervision , training and technical assistance for the immigration staff, providing direct legal assistance, ensuring budget and grant compliance and reporting, representing YWCA Tulsa in community initiatives, conducting community education, and being an active member of the agency’s management team.

• Provides direct legal representation to clients in obtaining immigration status or benefits, with a focus on more complex immigration cases.
• Directly manages program staff by overseeing caseloads, conducting case reviews, providing technical assistance, and ensuring high-quality work in compliance with program processes and procedures.
• Ensures all accredited immigration representatives maintain accreditation status and support and guide staff seeking accreditation.
• Oversees law student externships and volunteers.
• Stays current on applicable laws and policies, and assures program contract or regulatory compliance.
• Stays apprised of immigration law and best practices and within the program budget ensures immigration staff receive frequent, appropriate training on immigration-related skills and knowledge.
• Maintains Program workload to preserve operations of department in terms of quality and accuracy as well as fiscal requirements.
• Responsible for immigration database maintenance, documentation and record keeping of Program client cases and other agency reporting requirements.
• Participates with development staff in grant management, data collection, compliance and reporting.
• Assists with legal education efforts, including planning workshops, producing legal education materials, and collaborating with community partners to conduct Know Your Rights presentations and participate in outreach events.
• Represents YWCA Tulsa at immigration related meetings, forums and events in the community.
• Collaborates with other YWCA Tulsa programs as appropriate to ensure integrated, client-centered service.
• Assists in determining appropriate case stories for use in reports, advocacy materials, and public education and providing expert testimony to media on current immigration law and policy topics.

• Actively participates in YWCA Tulsa’s management team and other YWCA functions as needed and requested by Director.
• Complies with all YWCA policies and procedures.

Requirements: 

• J. D. Law Degree with attorney license in any of the 50 states (required); Oklahoma law license (preferred).
• Two to four years of immigration law experience required.
• Minimum 1 year of supervisory or management experience required.
• Nonprofit Program management experience preferred.
• Fluency in Spanish is preferred, and/or another language such as Burmese or Arabic.
