WASHINGTON – On Thursday, June 12, the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) will host “JustFundIt: A National Conversation on the Importance of Federal Funding to Safeguard Equal Justice,” featuring recorded, virtual remarks from U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).

The conversation will be held from 4 - 6:00 p.m. at Dentons, LLC (1900 K St NW, Washington, DC 20006), and will spotlight the importance of protecting and expanding federal investment in communities and families to ensure equal access to justice in America. As funding uncertainties and executive actions jeopardize the stability of families and communities, NLADA is sounding the alarm and mobilizing action.

“Federal funding cuts, along with challenges to preserving due process and the rule of law, are unprecedented,” said NLADA President & CEO April Frazier Camara. “These cuts not only strain legal systems, but they also leave real people without the support they need in moments of crisis. That is why NLADA is urging Congress to direct federal dollars where they matter, in the communities that need them most.”

The event will feature a panel discussing how federal funding cuts are impacting real people and communities across the country. It will focus on the challenges faced by those who rely on civil legal aid and public defense, and call on Congress to restore the funding needed to continue critical services such as education, housing and healthcare.

This is part of NLADA’s "JustFundIt" campaign, a national initiative demanding increased federal investment to ensure equal access to justice for all Americans. JustFundIt is supported by the following collaborators: Coalition on Human Needs, Legal Action Center, and the National Low Income Housing Coalition.
