The Legal Aid Society is seeking a licensed Florida attorney to join our Family Law Team in a fully remote role. This position offers the opportunity to provide high-quality legal advice, counseling, and brief services to low-income and vulnerable individuals who otherwise have limited access to legal assistance.
Using your family law experience, you will deliver immediate and substantive support to clients through advice and brief services, helping individuals navigate critical legal issues with compassion, professionalism, and efficiency. This role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys direct client interaction, problem-solving, and meaningful public service work without the demands of extensive litigation.
This position is fully remote.
Illustrative Duties
· Serve as a trusted resource for clients by providing high-quality legal advice and brief services via telephone and other remote communication platforms.
· Conduct detailed client interviews to assess legal needs, with a primary focus on family law matters.
· Evaluate client income and program eligibility in compliance with Legal Aid and grantor requirements.
· Identify cases that may require extended representation and, when appropriate, coordinate referrals to Legal Aid staff attorneys or outside legal partners.
· Provide legal research, advice, and brief services for matters that do not require ongoing representation, including drafting correspondence and providing self-help materials.
· Review and analyze documents submitted by applicants and clients.
· Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the organization’s case management system.
· Assist with the development and revision of legal advice templates, educational materials, and brief service resources.
· Connect clients with appropriate community resources and social service agencies to support their broader needs.
Benefits:

LAS office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm. This is a full-time, salaried position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate (JD); Florida Bar licensed and in good standing.
At least 2 years of active Florida Bar practice, with substantial family law knowledge.
Excellent client interviewing skills and the ability to assess complex legal problems quickly and accurately.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-attorneys.
Ability to work independently and responsibly in a remote environment under supervision.
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, internet research, and the ability to document accurately in a legal case management system.
Sympathetic and compassionate understanding of the social, economic, and legal challenges faced by low-income individuals.
Ability to work professionally under pressure and maintain effective working relationships with team members.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience in family law and litigation.
Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole.
Experience working at a nonprofit legal services organization.
Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and comfortable in a fully remote work environment.
