GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Senior Attorneys work under the supervision of the Supervising Attorney (s) on the Unit in which they are assigned. In the absence of a Supervising Attorney due to vacation, sick leave, etc., the Senior Attorney assumes the full responsibility of a Supervising Attorney.
The duties of the Senior Attorney on the Matrimonial Unit include, but are not limited to:
1. Handling complex matrimonial law matters;
2. Reviewing cases of other team members to assure competent legal practice and adherence to prescribed practices and procedures;
3. Acting as a resource and providing training and mentorship to other attorneys and legal support staff;
4. Providing telephone advice;
5. Covering intake and court appearances and trials for staff;
6. Reviewing and closing legal files on a timely basis.
REQUIREMENTS
• Juris Doctorate; A member in good standing of the New York State Bar.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in matrimonial law.
• Superior leadership, time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain contemporaneous and detailed case management notes.
• Ability to handle multiple complex assignments with minimal supervision and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience in supervising, training and mentoring staff.
• Ability to work with co-workers in a professional and non-confrontational manner.
• Excellent legal research and legal writing skills.
• Demonstrated trial and litigation experience.
• Bi-lingual Spanish speakers encouraged to apply.
