Position Description:

Legal Aid Society of Rockland County, Inc. (LASRC), a legal services organization that represents the indigent population of Rockland County, New York seeks three full-time lawyers for its office in New City, New York as follows:
(1) Staff Attorney – Housing/Evictions – Defending clients’ rights to retain housing primarily in Justice Courts but the position may require affirmative litigation in state and/or federal courts. Entry-level attorneys are welcome!

(2) Supervising Attorney – Housing/Evictions – Both direct advocacy of clients’ rights to retain housing – in Justice Courts and in state and/or federal courts – and supervision of staff attorneys in that unit. Applicants must have at least five (5) years’ litigation experience. In addition to a salary based on LASRC’s lockstep salary scale depending on years of experience, this position will receive a stipend for its supervisory obligations. Supervisory experience in a legal setting is preferred but not required.

(3) Immigration Attorney – Highly motivated immigration attorney to establish and lead LASRC’s immigration practice. Ideal for a self-starter who is eager to build something from the ground up, shape strategy, and develop a thriving practice area with significant autonomy. Some experience with representation in immigration proceedings is required, and the candidate must be willing to assist in the process of developing grant applications and reports to increase funding for the practice.

LASRC offers a collegial and supportive work environment with a rewarding practice and great in-court experience.

Fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Yiddish is a plus, but not required.
Program Profile: Rockland County is a suburban region located 30 miles northwest of New York City. LASRC has represented income-eligible clients in civil cases since its inception in 1965 and has represented children in family court since 1989. Our clients are racially, religiously, and linguistically diverse.
