Washington, DC – NLADA released the following statement in response to the shootings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Jeffrey Pretti, who were killed in separate incidents involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and federal Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis:

“Our hearts are with the people of Minneapolis and the families of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

People in Minneapolis are navigating fear, disruption, and uncertainty caused by the ongoing presence of increased federal law enforcement in their communities, affecting their right and opportunity to be safe and healthy, to work and live with dignity, and to flourish. This very safety, stability, and opportunity is what civil legal aid, client community advocates, and public defenders work toward every day.

We urge decision-makers to de-escalate tensions in Minneapolis and call for comprehensive and independent investigations into the killings.

NLADA also urges stakeholders to work together to ensure dignity and justice in communities.”
