Summary:

The Southeast Immigrant Freedom Initiative (SIFI) provides high-quality, holistic pro bono legal representation to immigrants detained in the southeastern United States. By ensuring that skilled attorneys are available to protect detained immigrants’ due process rights, the SIFI endeavors to win every meritorious deportation defense case arising out of Trump-era immigration enforcement actions. SIFI was developed by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and is a collaboration between SPLC, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the American Immigration Council (Council), and the Innovation Law Lab (Law Lab). The American Immigration Representation Project (AIRP) is supporting SIFI and is working with the Council to expand pro bono support.

Position Summary:

The SIFI Project Coordinator will manage daily operations for a team of full-time staff and pro-bono attorneys, in order to provide the highest quality legal case support to individuals detained in the Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, GA. The SIFI Project Coordinator will train the pro-bono attorneys in the administrative tasks necessary to provide legal support for all clients represented by the SIFI project. Along with the SIFI staff attorneys, the Project Coordinator will distribute tasks to pro-bono attorneys based on client need and pro-bono experience. The Project Coordinator will manage each case in the LawLab database and use LawLab to determine the necessary next steps for each case. The Project Coordinator role will ensure that all clients receive the attention and legal support they need to win their cases and be released from detention through daily direct service in the detention center, and national advocacy leveraged through the organizational partners.

Primary Job Functions:

• Training pro-bono attorneys in how to use LawLab database
• Managing cases through LawLab for all SIFI clients in the Irwin County Detention Center
• Determining and coordinating daily and weekly task distribution based on client need and pro-bono capacity
• Managing organization and consistent use of LawLab database
• Working with pro-bono and staff attorneys to complete all necessary tasks
• Communicating with partner organizations and participating in weekly calls to share project status, challenges, and
successes
• Maintaining communication and coordination with local ICE/EOIR officials and Irwin County Detention Center staff to
ensure optimal client access and conditions
• Engaging in data collection, aggregation and compilation for case development, strategy, litigation, advocacy and other
purposes
• Working with remote teams on multi-strategy legal cases and advocacy campaigns
• Managing and maintaining routine client communication and routine client management

Requirements: 

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree, its equivalent, or higher
• 2+ years of experience in coordinating staff, students, or volunteers preferred.
• Bi-lingual, English/Spanish (conversational, speaking and writing)
• Demonstrated knowledge and skill in coordinating volunteer, case, and/or data management systems
• Commitment to working long hours
• Knowledge of immigration policy and procedure is helpful, though not required
