The Pro Bono Coordinator is responsible for the day to day running of the Las Vegas Office's pro bono program. The duties include recruiting private attorneys to participate in the pro bono program; organizing training for pro bono attorneys; placing cases off the NLS waiting list with pro bono attorneys; helping NLS staff mentor pro bono attorneys; providing support to private attorneys that have accepted cases; and planning the recognition of pro bono efforts.
The position need not be filled by an attorney. The Pro Bono Coordinator must be familiar with the practice of law, interviewing clients, and how the local courts operate. The Pro Bono Coordinator must be an outgoing person, comfortable with public speaking, comfortable with hearing "no" on occasion, and able to sympathetically handle clients who can contact the program in distress and fear. Familiarity with the type of work the legal services organization handles is preferred.
