Position Description: 

Position: Full Time Paralegal – ILS Senior Law Project Indianapolis office; Legal Assistance for Victimized Adults Project.

Organizational information: Indiana Legal Services, Inc. (ILS) is a statewide, not-for-profit organization that provides free legal services to eligible clients in civil cases through 8 branch offices. ILS is funded by the Legal Services Corporation, United Ways, Area Agencies on Aging, and approximately 20 other funding sources. The Indianapolis Senior Law Project provides a full range of free civil legal services to clients who reside in a 20-county service area in Central Indiana.

Position Description: ILS has obtained a two year grant from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute to provide direct legal representation to endangered adults statewide who are the victim of a crime such as abuse, neglect, or exploitation. This will include representation to halt ongoing abuse, along with ongoing representation to ease or eliminate the effects of the criminal behavior. The Project will consist of two attorneys and a paralegal. The paralegal will interview applicants, clients, and others, conduct research, draft documents, assist the attorneys as needed, and communicate with other groups to identify potential clients. The paralegal will also assist with grant record keeping and reporting.

Requirements: 

Qualifications:
• Dedicated to the mission of Indiana Legal Services
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and able to quickly learn new software.
• Legal research skills are preferred.
• Interest in working with endangered adults who are victims of a crime.
