Position Description:

The Farmworker Law Project provides free legal assistance to farmworkers statewide. This position is for a community legal educator for farmworkers and requires overnight travel twice a month during the growing and harvesting seasons. Non-travel weeks include outreach 1-2 evenings a week.

Farmworkers are essential to harvest New York’s fruits, vegetables, and other plants; they also work with livestock, in dairies and fresh food packaging and processing plants. The position’s focus is to provide community legal education at migrant labor camps to farmworkers during evening hours and develop educational materials for the workers. The Farmworker Law Project’s practice primarily involves employment law, utilizing state and federal laws regulating wages, working conditions, safety, and housing for migrant farmworkers. The Farmworker Law Project (FLP) also represents some agricultural product processing workers with employment-related issues.
