Position Description: 

PRO BONO & TRAINING COORDINATOR– FULL-TIME

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA) is seeking a full-time Coordinator for its Pro Bono & Training Unit. The Pro Bono & Training Unit connects MMLA clients to volunteer attorneys for legal advice and/or representation in a variety of matters including immigration, family law, tax, and wills. The unit also coordinates training for volunteers, law students, and MMLA staff. Finally, The Pro Bono & Training Unit organizes MMLA’s legal clerkships and summer law student fellowships. This position will start as soon as possible after an offer is extended.

Employees at MMLA enjoy a flexible schedule, collegial office setting, and healthy work/life balance. This is a hybrid position, where the Coordinator works 2 or 3 days remotely and remaining days in the office. The Coordinator will report to the Deputy Director in Minneapolis; the Coordinator may choose to work in the Minneapolis, St. Cloud, or Wilmar MMLA offices. On Fridays, MMLA closes at noon and employees enjoy a half day of paid flex time. MMLA provides on-the-job training and mentorship, with opportunities for growth within the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Apply the principles of MMLA’s Racial Justice Values Statement in all interactions
• Supervise staff members of the pro bono & training unit
• Plan, execute, and oversee pro bono and training projects for MMLA and MMLA volunteers
• Craft internal pro bono policies and engage in long-term planning
• Work with MMLA’s supervising attorneys, development team, litigation directors, and deputy directors to identify pro bono and training priorities
• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
• Generate detailed reports on the progress and outcomes of pro bono projects
• Maintain volunteer database and record volunteer hours
• Assign cases or tasks to volunteers based on their skills and interests
• Develop and maintain relationships with law firm pro bono coordinators
• Develop and maintain relationships with law school internship, externship, and fellowship coordinators
• Conduct outreach to law students and legal volunteers
• Onboard, train, and mentor volunteers
• Develop and implement volunteer recognition
• Support volunteers through recognition initiatives and events
• If the supervisor is a licensed attorney, provide limited legal advice and representation to pro bono clients
• Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have at least three years of experience as a Project Manager
• Strong organizational and program development skills
• Experience recruiting, training, and managing volunteers
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong reporting experience
• Adept at using Microsoft Office and electronic databases

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience; J.D. may be helpful
• Experience supervising staff
• Connections to community organizations, bar associations, and law firms
• Diverse economic, social, and cultural experiences
• Language proficiency, especially in Arabic, Hmong, Oromo, Somali, or Spanish

SALARY: $73,818 to $97,096 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits.
Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid offers a robust benefits package, including family medical and dental insurance, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, 403(b) with employer match, FSA, employee assistance programs, and generous paid time off. This is a full-time position, but the office closes on Friday afternoons for paid flex time.
