Job Title: Full-Time Staff Attorney – Civil Legal Services
Job Location: Albuquerque, NM
Job Type: Elder Law Attorney
Organization: Senior Citizens’ Law Office, Inc.

The Senior Citizens’ Law Office, Inc. (SCLO) provides free and reduced-cost civil legal services to older New Mexicans. We help seniors aged 60 and older, many with incomes below 200% of the federal poverty level, primarily in Central New Mexico (Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance, and Valencia Counties), but with some statewide services. SCLO provides education, advocacy, and legal representation for seniors to assist them with maintaining autonomy, housing, accessing health care, ensuring they are receiving the benefits they are entitled to, and supporting economic security.

Position Description:
SCLO is seeking a staff attorney with an interest in elder law to join its team. The attorney will focus on housing, health care, benefits, economic security, and autonomy-protecting mechanisms such as powers of attorney. The position will be in-office and is full-time with a 36-hour workweek. The attorney will provide a broad range of legal services from brief services to full representation. Additionally, the attorney will conduct community education and outreach activities, including educational presentations and legal clinics. The office holds regular attorney meetings to discuss complex cases and share resources. SCLO attorneys are highly collaborative, cordial and supportive of each other.

The ideal candidate will have a desire to work in public interest and poverty law and be patient with and sensitive to seniors. SCLO offers a generous employment plan; 100% of health and dental premium for the employee, paid vacation and sick leave, and a matching 403(b) pension. Salary is dependent on experience.

SCLO is a small nonprofit and has a family-style office of 19 people.
