Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO), a non-profit law firm that provides high-quality legal assistance to eligible low-income individuals and groups in western Ohio, seeks an attorney for our Legal Assistance for Victims Project. This position will be located in one of LAWO’s seven office locations (Toledo, Dayton, Springfield, Defiance, Lima, Sandusky, or Findlay).
LAWO’s Legal Assistance for Victims Project is an initiative that seeks to develop and expand collaborative efforts among legal service and victims’ service providers to increase access to legal services for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. It will increase the provision of civil legal services to these victims as well as services relating to crime victims’ rights. This initiative will prioritize victims who have experienced strangulation.

Excellent legal and communication skills; experience with computer software and Microsoft Office; ability to relate well with people living in poverty; understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence; and a commitment to providing high quality legal services with a trauma-informed approach required. The ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively with victim service providers and have experience working with domestic violence survivors. Knowledge of and commitment to issues surrounding Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Racial Justice strongly preferred. Membership in Ohio Bar or ability to be admitted by motion or temporary certification is required. Fluency in Spanish preferred but not required.
